Working test of WTC memorial conducted

Michael Arad's National September 11 Memorial project, originally scheduled for completion last year, is displaying positive signs for completion in time for the ten year anniversary of the attacks. A working test of the waterfall voids is currently being conducted in Brooklyn and construction is expected to begin shortly at the WTC site. Talking at the site of the tests, Arad said: "One of the things I wanted the water and the design to do was to really mark this continuing sense of absence, this notion that time moves forward but the absence in so many people's lives is persistent, it doesn't go away. And these voids, even though water falls into them day in and day out, they never fill up, they always remain empty, and that was very important to me."
