Eisenhower Memorial job down to seven

A competition to select an architect to design the National Eisenhower Memorial on a four acre site next to the National Mall in Washington DC, is down to seven finalists.

The short-listed firms include Moshe Safdie, Frank Gehry, Michael Arad with Peter Walker, Stanley Saitowitz, Rogers Marvel, Ralph Johnson, and Ron Krueck.

The competition brief calls for “ a unique and engaging landscaped plaza type memorial, with an integral sheltering element to welcome visitors throughout the year and interpretive elements to bring the Eisenhower legacy to life.

The project design phase begins in the last half of 2009 with projected completion in 2013. The estimated total project cost ranges from $90 million to $110 million.
