Short list announced for Sofia Government Centre

The Regional Department and Public Works Ministry of Bulgaria, has short-listed six firms for the design of a new Government Centre in Sofia.

Out of an initial 19 firms considered, the finalists are Foster + Partners, Zaha Hadid Architects, Dominique Perrault Architecture, Obedinerie G-3, (the studio of Bulgarian architect Georgi Stoilov), Massimilano Fuksas and the consortium ADAIS proekt with Stoilov presiding over 18 companies involved in the design, construction and planning.

The selected six will present their concepts for project by February 2009. The Center, which is to be located on a 60ha site, is to include administrative offices, hotels, residences for diplomats, and sports centres. It will be funded by a private-public partnership, wherein the Government will seek investors to fund the costs of the projects in exchange for development rights on the same plot.
