Medialab-Prado opens up digital facades

Medialab-Prado is calling for project proposals for the digital façade of their building in Madrid. The chosen proposals will be collaboratively developed during the Open Up workshop-seminar taking place in Madrid from February 9 to February 23, 2010.

Selected projects will be developed under the supervision of teachers, technical assistants and an extensive group of collaborators, including Jordi Claramonte, Chandler McWilliams and Casey Reas. Urban screens and digital facades have, in the past, been highly developed technically but the contents are usually created in closed processes. The goals of the workshop are to experiment with the screen’s communicative, narrative and visual capacities, and to investigate its potential to offer new forms of participation.

Projects submitted to this call should take the following ideas into consideration: the development of strategies for public participation, activation of urban space through the screen, fostering public visibility of agents that normally have none, visualization of public collective, interaction with portable devices, etc. All those interested in collaborating in one of the selected projects can sign in from January 5 to February 8, 2010. Projects must be submitted by December 10, 2009. No entry fees.
