It takes 'Imagination' to win a competition

‘Imagination’, a collaboration between Re-Format and C.F. Møller Architects, has been awarded the contract to design the first phase of the University of Portsmouth’s Institute of Marine Sciences. The project is a redevelopment of the existing facility in Eastney, presently housed in a series of former MoD buildings. The unique site is on a narrow peninsula of land at the inlet to Langstone Harbour, surrounded by sea on three sides.

The contract includes masterplanning of the 0.35 ha site to determine how the present and future phases will come together to provide teaching and research facilities for the University of Portsmouth.

The Institute of Marine Sciences project is the first outcome of the ‘Imagination’ collaboration, initiated in November 2008 to provide clients with design and consultancy services leading to the creation of exemplary educational buildings. The combination of C.F. Møller Architects and Re- Format Architects brings international and local expertise to the design of innovative, sustainable and award-winning educational buildings
