Open House calls for architect volunteers

Open House is looking for architects and other built environment and sustainability experts to get involved in their Summer Eco City Architecture Academy taking place this August.

Architects and other professionals will be asked to mentor young people (aged 12-19) and architecture students invited by Open House to take part in a 4-day Architecture Academy: Summer Eco City (24-27 August) located in the Ambika P3 space at Westminster University’s Architecture School.

Up to fifty young people will work together to build a huge 3D model of their vision for the capital. Over the four days they will be given the opportunity to get stuck into creative workshops investigating architecture, design and public space. Alongside this, Open House is also encouraging teams of London architecture students & recent architecture graduates to take part in the Eco City Challenge: to re-imagine key buildings on London’s riverside for a new vision of a sustainable city.

There are a number of ways for architects, environment professionals and sustainability specialists to get involved:
• Co-lead units both in the Ambika P3 space and on site visits – (2.5 hours each)
• Support units both in the Ambika P3 space and on site visits – (2.5 hours each)
• Mentor teams of architectural students/recent graduates – (1.5 hours each day over the 4 days)

If you would like to get involved in Summer Eco City please email the following details to ecocity@openhouse.org.uk by 14 August 09:
• Your name
• Your practice/ company
• A short description of any experience you have had working with young people and students
• Your availability over the 4 day programme (24-27 August)
• Whether you would like to lead a unit, support a unit or mentor a student team

The Eco City workshops are presented in partnership with P3, University of Westminster and funded by Arts Council England. For further information please visit: www.openhouse.org.uk/education/youth/summer_school.html
