Winner chosen for Peace Park

The winner has been chosen from international submissions for the ideas competition to design a Peace Park linking the Diomede islands, launched last February. Commissioned by the Foundation for Peace and Unification the project aims to unite the Eurasian and American continents 'through a pertinent architectural symbol'. From 135 projects, the team receiving the 200,000€ prize is Julian Restrepo, (Colombia) with Pablo Forero, Manuela Mosquera, Tomas Jaramillo (Colombia) and Susana Somoza (Venezuela). Led by Restrepo, the project named Diomede Archipelago was unanimously voted first prize and proposes a series of islands made of recycled material dredged from the sea that form two archipelagos extending the two continents. At their intersection, a tunnel links the two Diomede islands.
