Post Tower wins CTBUH 10 Year Award

The Helmut Jahn-designed Post Tower in Bonn, Germany has been announced as the winner of the 10 Year Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). The award celebrates tall buildings that are more than a decade old and have proven their value and performance since completion.

Awards juror David Gianotten, Managing Director at OMA, said: “The Post Tower undoubtedly changes the way we look at sustainable building for the high rise typology. The design single-handedly changed the way we look at façade and office design to date. It has become an exemplar sustainable icon in contemporary architecture.”

The 163m-high office tower takes the form of two elliptical volumes connected by an atrium. The form has a double-skin operable façade, with stack ventilation, and site and wind orientation to remove a high proportion of the need for mechanical ventilation. It consumes approximately 79% less energy than a standard office tower of its size.
