6.3-hectare Crystal Lagoon scheme for Bintan, Indonesia

Specialists in large-scale crystalline lagoons, Crystal Lagoons Corp. have announced plans for a 6.3-hectare scheme in Bintan, Indonesia. The immense lagoon project is part of a wider 338-hectare mixed-use community headed by Landmarks Berhad which will see hotels, restaurants, leisure clubs and retail units sited around the water. The complete development will be constructed in phases over a ten-year period. The lagoon is part of phase one and is scheduled to be operational by Q4 2014.

In total, Crystal Lagoons plans to use 117,600 cb m of water to fill the lagoon, surrounded by 1,400m of sandy beaches. The scheme includes family-friendly activities and experiences for water sport enthusiasts. The patented technology behind the giant lagoons uses up to 100 times less chemicals than traditional pool systems and only 2% of the energy required to filter them.

Kevin P Morgan, CEO, Crystal Lagoons commented: “As well as being a cost-effective build and operational model that enables tourism destinations to work towards meeting long term sustainability goals, it is important that we also continue to evolve the product and deliver on our ‘high quality fun’ promise. Our Treasure Bay Bintan lagoon will also offer two thrilling adrenaline-fuelled activities with a bungee jumping platform and cable water ski facility.”
