Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport enjoys grand opening ceremony

Yesterday an official opening ceremony was held for the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport. The HK$5.9bn complex began a phased opening in February 2013 and became fully operational in October 2013, ensuring that minimum disruption was experienced by airport users.

The new terminal building as an annual handling capacity of 2.6 million tonnes and has created around 1,800 jobs. Cathay Pacific Chief Executive John Slosar said: “Cathay Pacific has worked tirelessly to develop the Hong Kong hub for both passengers and air cargo, and we continue to make huge investments - in the terminal and in new aircraft - that will boost our city’s competitive edge.

“The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is one of the world’s biggest, and also most sophisticated, and will help to sustain Hong Kong’s position as a preferred air cargo hub in the region. We believe the combination of this new terminal, our growing fleet and the professionalism of Hong Kong’s logistics community will help to provide a flexible and dynamic logistics solution for Hong Kong’s airfreight industry, and this is very important given the growing competition from other hubs around the region.”
