Theis and Khan Architects win competition for new headquarters of RIBA in London

A team of Theis and Khan Architects, Max Fordham LLP and Price & Myers have been announced as winners of a competition to design the new home of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The brief, which was advertised by WAN’s Business Information Service, requested the refurbishment, upgrade and redevelopment of the newly-acquired 76-80 Portland Place in London. The RIBA is relocating its headquarters from 66 Portland Place to new premises comprising 4,590 sq m over 8 levels.

Soraya Khan and Patrick Theis said: “We are thrilled to be appointed to lead the team designing the RIBA’s new offices; it is an enormous privilege and we would like to thank the selection panel.

“We look forward to delivering a high quality sustainable design that both meets the RIBA's aspirations for its new building and reflects the integrity of 66 Portland Place. We were intrigued by the potential synergies between the two buildings and look forward to developing these further with the RIBA.”
