The Office for Design and Architecture in South Australia will soon be asking for public comments on a series of design submissions for a competition to reconsider the Royal Adelaide Hospital site. Following a competition for registered architects and landscape architects, the organisation will be running a People’s Choice Campaign to gain important feedback from local people.
Stage two proposals are expected from shortlisted competition entrants on 14 November and the People’s Choice Campaign will be launched on 21 November. The official competition was posted by WAN’s Business Information Service and the full document can be viewed here.
The competition requested innovative and engaging ideas for the complete redesign of the Royal Adelaide Hospital site following the close of the institution in 2016. Key objectives included: Creating a civic and cultural place; Delivering best practice in sustainable design; Enhancing connectivity to the city and its context; Creating a public open space as an extension of the Park Lands; and Respecting the site’s cultural and built heritage through adaptive reuse and innovative new uses.
