AIA selects winners of 2013 Educational Facility Design Award

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) has selected five educational and cultural facilities for this year’s CAE Educational Facility Design Awards.

The awards honour educational facilities that the jury believes should serve as an example of a superb place in which to learn, furthering the client's mission, goals and educational programme while demonstrating excellence in architectural design.

The five winning facilities are the Northridge Student Recreation Center at the California State University (designed by California LPA, Incorporated), Sandy High School in Oregon (designed by IBI Group Architects), The Jobie L. Martin Classroom Building in Jackson, Mississippi (designed by Duvall Decker Architects), the Mesa Community College Health Wellness Building in Arizona (designed by SmithGroupJJR) and Cranbrooke Kingswood Girls’ Middle School in Michigan (designed by Lake|Flato Architects).

The 2013 jury included Steven Shiver of NAC Architecture and chair of AIA, John Dale of Harley Ellis Devereaux; Linda Nelson Keane of AIA, Victor Sidy of the Taliesin School of Architecture and AIA and C. Kenneth Tanner from the University of Georgia.
