Construction begins on three sports halls at Rio 2016 Games Barra Olympic Park

Construction has begun on three sports halls as part of the Rio 2016 Games Barra Olympic Park, confirmed the International Olympic Committee. The venues have been funded through a public-private partnership which also includes the design and construction of the Main Press Centre and International Broadcast Centre, a hotel and supporting infrastructure throughout the park.

The sports halls will host the basketball, taekwondo, Olympic and Paralympic judo, wrestling, wheelchair basketball, boccia, sitting volleyball, and wheelchair rugby. Once the 2016 Olympic Games are over, the three sports halls will remain as part of a legacy programme which also includes the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre, the Velodrome and the Tennis Centre.
