Call for entries: Post-Quake Visions

A contest by Young Architects Competitions (YAC) aims to offer participants a chance of practising solid, refined research in post-seismic design. The research YAC would like to promote is a high-level quest for revamping Crevalcore's inner city after the 2012 quake that dramatically shook this Italian medieval town.

By inviting architecture enthusiasts, professionals and students to join the ‘POST-QUAKE VISIONS’ competition, YAC aims to rethink and redesign the quake-inflicted gaps left inside ancient urban tissues. This endeavour points to revamp such scarred ecosystem under cultural and economical keys, with the goal of finding out urban perspectives and social possibilities once undisclosed or inconceivable.

YAC aims to base this research firstly on reading the wounds the quake left on cities, communities and architectures. By focusing on such vacant spaces, the goal is to insert brand new architecture able to blend ancient heritage with contemporary pace.

The competition is open to architects 35 years of age and under, with a first prize of €3,000, second prize of €1,000, third prize of 500 and fourth prize for four ‘gold’ honourable mentions of €250. All of these submissions plus 8 honourable mentions will benefit from publication in architectural magazines and involvement in an exhibition in Crevalcore.
