3 new hotels planned for Makkah in major Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. deal

A deal has been signed between Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. and Jabal Omar Development Company for a triplet of new hotels in the Jabal Omar Development, a 230,000 sq m mixed-use scheme in Makkah.

Religious tourism makes up a large proportion of Makkah’s economy and the three hotels will add 1,496 new rooms to the city. 26 hotels already exist in the development but Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide plans to open 3 more under the company’s Sheraton, Westin and Four Points brands.

H.E. Abdul Rahman Abdul Qadir Fakieh, chairman of the board for Jabal Omar Development Company commented: “We are excited to partner with Starwood to bring three of their world-class brands to Makkah. We believe the addition of these hotels is in line with the goal of the Jabal Omar Development to improve and urbanise the central area surrounding Al Haram and provide much needed facilities and accommodations for pilgrims.”
