London’s South Bank is home to one of the city’s much-loved skate parks however plans are to relocate it elsewhere in the city. A petition on change.org has been set up to retain the park’s current location. The relocation is part of Feilden Clegg Bradley’s scheme to redevelop the South Bank Centre.
Charitable organisation Building Trust International (BTI) has initiated a project to source similar potential areas in cities where interaction, public engagement and strengthening of communities can be fostered. Registration for the competition closes in less than a month's time on 1 July at midnight however entrants do not need to submit their proposals until 29 July 2013 at midnight
David Cole, Director of BTI, explained: “The park in the under-croft represents the only original publicly driven expression of art on the South Bank. A space transformed into a place by the community that use it and interact with it. It is very rare to have a place evolve through youth interaction into a landmark in its own right and it is something that should be nurtured and invested in not moved on and attempted to be manufactured elsewhere.”
