Masterplan for urban development in Bordeaux won by OMA

Dutch practice OMA has been announced as the winner of an international competition run by La Fabrique Metropolitaine de la Communaute Urbaine de Bordeaux to develop a new urban strategy for the southern district of Bordeaux, France.

The scheme will develop new connections between the city’s central station and the regions of Begles and Villenave d’Ornon, and expand the local tram network. The tender was publicised by WAN’s Business Information Service in March 2012.

OMA have vast experience in masterplanning with past projects including the Almere Masterplan in the Netherlands (2007) where a new city centre was planned, Zollverein Masterplan in Essen, Germany where a historic coal refinery was redeveloped, and a 800,000 sq m urban development in Lille, France (1989).
