Two UK practices have been announced for sporting venues at the Rio 2016 Olympics. 3D Reid with work with local firm BLAC Architects as specialist venue consultants on the design of the velodrome and And Architects will also be working with a Rio-based practice, Lopes, Santos & Ferreira Gomes, on the design of the handball arena.
Gordon McGhie, Director of 3D Reid’s Glasgow office, told The Scotsman: “To play a part in the 2016 Olympics, so soon after completing the velodrome in our home city, is just fantastic.” The project referenced is the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, Scotland’s first indoor velodrome, and will host the cycling competition at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
