Public architecture bidding & supplementary designs sought for Brazilian Scientific Station in Antarctica

Bids are being sought for the reconstruction of the Brazilian Scientific Station in Antarctica by the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) and the Brazilian Navy. Located in the Keller Peninsular inside the Admiralty Bay in King George Island, the Comandante Ferraz Antartic Station is estimated to start onsite next summer for completion in 2014 with a R$100m grant. Enrollment will be open until 14 March for Brazilian and foreign architects associated to Brazilian architecture offices.

IAM President Sergio Magalhaes explained: “A public bidding of projects is the best way to look for the desired quality, in line with the significance reached by Brazilian science and technology and, above all by the leading geopolitical role our country has been playing. A good environment is critical to the comfort of researchers and the well being of teams. By following this course of action we will certainly reach the best result possible.”
