Hong Kong forum to concentrate on economic downturn

The Architecture and Design conference in Hong Kong this May is to tackle the challenge of the creation and regeneration of our buildings and cities amidst the two perfect storms of the credit crunch and climate crisis.

"In order to create architecture for tomorrow we have to rethink our techniques of design," says renowned architect Ben van Berkel, the founding principal of Dutch firm UNStudio, who will deliver an opening keynote, entitled: “The evolution of architecture.” Over the course of the two-day event he will be joined by a host of top architectural names, including senior designers and top management from some the world’s biggest firms, including AEDAS, HOK, Kohn Pedersen Fox, RMJM and SOM.

Presentations and interactive panel discussions will discuss issues from green architecture to managing a design practice in an economic downturn. In the eco-friendly architecture section, Andrew James, Senior Principal of Populous (formerly known as HOK Sport), will reveal how the London 2012 Olympics Stadium will set a new benchmark for environmentally friendly venues.
