Gagosian Galleries to show illuminated fish from Frank Gehry in Paris and Los Angeles

Two galleries are preparing to showcase Frank Gehry’s Fish Lamps simultaneously. The Gagosian Beverly Hills and Gagosian Paris will open exhibitions of Gehry’s jagged fish sculptures on 11 January and 24 January respectively.

Gehry began constructing sculptures of fish in 1984 when the Formica Corporation commissioned him to design objects using their plastic laminate ColorCore. Inspired by broken shards of the material, Gehry began to construct raw-edged replicas of fish, commenting that ‘the fish is a perfect form’.

Over the next few months, the two galleries will display new versions of Gehry’s original works, reimagined by the architect in 2012. The illuminated fish will be seen leaping from poles and wall sconces as well as resting in their horizontal forms on exhibition cases. Click here for more information.
