Next week, the city of Christchurch will host the first ever Festival of Transitional Architecture (FESTA) event, an inclusive celebration of the resilience shown in the city after the earthquake last year. At the core of the festival is the incentive for the community to engage with temporary architecture and ‘DIY urbanism’ in the act of regenerating Christchurch, with notion that temporary architecture can inform long-term decisions for the direction the city will take.
From 20-28 October 2012, various transitional venues will open their doors to the public, inviting them to interact with the architecture and hopefully generate new projects to add to the city’s vibrant character. Kicking things off will be LUXCITY, a city made of light for one night only, and closing the festival is Gap Filler’s Summer Pallet Pavilion, a thrilling community and live music venue.
