The Moshe Safdie-designed Raffles City Chongqing mixed-use development has broken ground at a landmark site at the meeting of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. Measuring 10 million sq ft, the CapitaLand development will comprise six slender towers seated on a five-storey retail podium, with residential, office and retail facilities.
A car park, metro station, bus interchange, ferry terminal and cruise centre are also on the cards, with a public park and gardens due to initiate interest from the local community. There are also plans to create a glittering ‘conservatory’ at the 60-storey level which will measure an incredible quarter of a mile long.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mr. Huang Qifan, Mayor of Chongqing and officials from the city and Yuzhong District governments; architect Moshe Safdie; senior management from both Singbridge and CapitaLand, and 150 guests and business partners involved in the project.
