New architecture school opens in Moscow

On Monday, World Architecture Day was celebrated in Moscow by the inauguration of Moscow Architectural School – MARSH, partnered with The Cass - Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University.

The school is partnered with The Cass - Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University, and has enrolled 38 students from a range of Russian cities, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Israel, for the first year of a Diploma course in Architecture.

The school was opened by the Rector and initiator of MARSH - Professor Eugene Asse to a packed hall of students, tutors, practicing architects and local press. The London side of proceedings was represented by British Architect - James McAdam, who made a key note speech on architectural education and its critical role in the development of the profession in Russia.

The event overflowed with enthusiasm – Professor Robert Mull (Dean of The Cass) welcomed the tutors and students by video link from London, Piotr Tarcynski of Buro Happold briefly spoke about forthcoming engineering workshops, and there was a lively informal debate between students and tutors.

MARSH will run three diploma units in the first year and plans to run a cross unit program with the diploma course at The Cass School of Architecture.
