9 missing as Cologne City Archive collapses

9 people are missing and at least one is injured following the collapse of Cologne City Archive. The six-storey 1970's building is thought by local authorities to have suffered from subway works below although the actual reason has not yet been determined.

Two buildings adjacent to the archive also suffered sever damage. Authorities said that most people evacuated upon hearing strange noises coming from the building. The archive was one of the largest in Germany holding 65,000 documents and half a million photographs.
