A fire broke out last night at the Schweger Partner and nps tchoban voss architects BDA-designed Federation Tower in Moscow. The soaring tower is currently under construction and the blaze erupted more than 60 storeys up the eastern tower yesterday, ripping through the thermal insulation and sending flames more than 250m into the air. Fire crews managed to bring the fire under control after approximately four hours and there have been no reported injuries thus far.
When it was designed, the Federation Tower was destined to be Europe’s tallest building with its antenna reaching 506m. This is almost 200m taller than Renzo Piano’s celebrated project, The Shard, at London Bridge Quarter. It will house various offices, a hotel and luxury apartments in two sail-style towers linked with a central antenna spire. Click here to view additional details on the design of the Federation Tower.
