A team led by James Corner Field Operations has been selected as the winner of a competition to redesign Navy Pier in Chicago, US. The landscape and design studio are also involved in the celebrated High Line scheme in New York and unveiled the final section of the project last week.
James Corner Field Operation’s concept for Navy Pier will introduce a series of intimate public spaces along the Pier and redesign the Gateway Park at the west entrance of the Pier, Crystal Gardens, Pier Park, East End Park and the South Dock. Landscaping and street furniture are also included in the concept.
Shortlisted for the scheme were a number of internationally acclaimed practices, five of which are WAN Tender Alerts subscribers. The shortlist included the following: Aedas Architects/Davis Brody Bond/Martha Schwartz; AECOM/Bjarke Ingels Group; James Corner Field Operations; !melk/HOK/Urban Lab; Xavier Vendrell Studio/Grimshaw Architects.
