Today, David Cameron and Nick Clegg will host a conference at 10 Downing Street in London attended by some of the world’s most influential architects, designers and urban planners. Under discussion is urban design in the UK’s capital with a concentration on safety for London’s many cyclists and how the UK can learn from successful schemes in the US and Scandinavia.

Bjarke Ingels is set to speak on the accomplishments of his ‘8 House’ project in Copenhagen, where residents are encouraged to cycle around the complex and Carlo Ratti will present the concept behind the ‘Copenhagen Wheel’, which can be attached to a push bike to store energy when the brakes are squeezed and released when the cyclist struggles uphill.

On Thursday, Parliament will debate a campaign run by UK paper The Times which attempts to make the country’s towns and cities safer environments for cyclists. The Transport for London Road Network has seen a 117% rise in cycling since 2000 leading to a call for a revaluation of the capital’s urban design.
