Projects sought for Toronto exhibition on aethetics and seismic design

The curators of an upcoming exhibition considering the relationship between aesthetically pleasing design and conventional structural solutions to seismic activity are looking for completed or unbuilt schemes to display at the Design Exchange in downtown Toronto. Dr. Effie Bouras and Professor Ghyslaine McClure are asking architects to submit their elegant structural solutions to building in areas often struck with seismic activity.

The curators explain: “Buildings, as we have been reminded by too many recent catastrophic earthquakes, are complex dynamic systems, oftentimes, aesthetic consideration is put on hold in favour of cost an engineering restraint; with this in mind, we are seeking proposals that surpass conventional approaches, ones that do not sacrifice a design aesthetic for conventional structural solution.”

Submissions must be received by 1st June, 2012, with the exhibition scheduled for September/October 2012. A brief synopsis and photos of the building or models are to be sent to info@mechanikllc.com with all shipping and printing costs covered by the exhibit. More information can be found here.
