Winners selected for New Practices New York 2012 contest

AIANY has announced the winners of its New Practices New York 2012 competition, which recognizes promising and pioneering new architecture design firms working in New York City. This year seven winners were selected from fifty-one entries. They are Tobias Holler, AIA, LEED AP; The Living; Abruzzo Bodziak; SLO Architecture; Formless Finder; Mark Fornes & THEVERYMANY; and Christian Wassman.

The winners were selected by distinguished jury panel that included Stan Allen, FAIA, Principal of Stan Allen Architect and Dean of Princeton University’s School of Architecture; Kit von Dalwig, AIA, Principal, Manifold (winner of New Practices New York 2010); William Menking, Editor-in-Chief, The Architect’s Newspaper; Mahadev Raman, P.E., Chairman Americas, Arup; and Billie Tsien, AIA Principal, Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects.

“These seven practices have demonstrated that their innovative, sustainable, and creative approaches are at the forefront of contemporary your firms,” said Joseph J. Allotta, AIA, LEED AP, and President of AIANY. “I look forward to learning more about their practices throughout the year, as we celebrate the future of the profession and architects’ contributions to New York City’s built environment.”

The winners will be exhibited at the Center for Architecture in New York City from June 14-September 8, 2012. This is fourth iteration of the biennial New Practices competition. AIANY’s New Practices winners have also been exhibited in London (2007) and San Francisco (2009), and Sao Paulo (2011) and those cities have brought their works to New York.
