London’s Heathrow Airport has released details of a new Games Terminal in preparation for the Olympic Games this summer. The Airport is expecting 35% more departing bags on the day after the closing ceremony making it Heathrow’s busiest day in history, therefore plans for a special new facility are in progress. A series of new lifts will be installed for the use of Paralympians, 1,000 volunteers recruited to greet passengers and help with any queries, and additional facilities put in place for reporting media reps.

Several million visitors are expected to pass through Heathrow during the London 2012 Olympic Games with 80% of the Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Nick Cole, Head of Olympic and Paralympic Planning at Heathrow, said: “The airport is one of the most popular international airports in the world and already operates close to capacity. Every part of the airport is working together to ensure we can give the athletes a warm welcome and ensure all passengers enjoy the atmosphere.”
