Piano wins top Danish culture prize

Italian architect Renzo Piano was named on Monday as the winner of the Sonningprisen 2008, Denmark’s most prestigious cultural award. The prize is bestowed by the University of Copenhagen in recognition of exceptional work that showcases European culture. The jury said Piano’s work was “an extraordinary and remarkable combination of art, architecture and artistic engineering.” Piano received a €134,000 prize at a reception on Wednesday at the University of Copenhagen.
