Turning the UK into a cultural masterpiece

Spurred on by the success of Liverpool's reign as the European Capital of Culture for 2008, the UK's cultural circuit, including its architecture, could receive a boost if Culture Secretary Andy Burnham has his way. Burnham has announced that he wants to push forward an annual or biennial competition within the UK for the coveted title of Capital of Culture. Competing cities would have to bid to win by investing in their cultural offerings and the look of their city. The current European Capital of Culture is Linz in Austria which has benefited from the addition of the Ars Electronica Center among other architectural boosts.
