Earthquake in Burma causes collapse of hundreds of buildings

A shallow earthquake in north eastern Burma has caused widespread damage to buildings and basic infrastructure, and is thought to have killed 70 people. The 6.8Rs earthquake hit in the mountains along the Thai border and tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok and Hanoi. Multiple bridges in the region have also been affected. Six strong aftershocks were also experienced following the initial quake. Hundreds of buildings have collapsed and many roads have been closed due to large cracks that have appeared on their surfaces.
