Architect Barbie to hit shops in autumn 2011

She may have missed out on the ‘I Can Be…’ contest hosted by toy manufacturer Mattel, but Architect Barbie is soon to become a reality after a strong campaign by architectural historian Despina Stratigakos. Due to hit the shops this autumn, Architect Barbie will sport thick black-rimmed glasses and a skyline-print dress, and comes accessorised with a small pink house, hard hat and tube of design ideas.

The AIA has supported the move, with Matt Tinder from Media Relations commenting: “We’re pleased that a new generation of young people have an opportunity to imagine becoming an architect. We believe the Barbie I Can Be… Architect will help inspire a new generation of young people to consider the profession of architecture.”
