About the awards
The WAN Retail and leisure Interiors Awards 2012 is a major international competition, which runs alongside our four bi-monthly INTERIOR AWARDS sector series, now in its second year.
Architects and designers from around the world are invited to compete. The condition for taking part is that the retail projects entered have been completed during the last three full calendar years, (on or after January 1st 2009).
The Awards will be judged in the two categories; Retail Interior projects less than 200 sq m will be judged separately to those greater than 200 sq m.
Principal criteria for judging:
· excellence in design
· originality in the use of space and materials
· quality in executing the total concept
Presentation is also of great importance, and judges will be looking for your ability to communicate the 'story' of your interior, from the initial concept through to its completion.
The WAN AWARDS received over 840 entries last year, making it the largest international architecture awards programme in the world. All entries to the WAN INTERIORS AWARDS are published on the WAN INTERIORS website, which serves over 10 million page impressions each month. A gallery of all entries for each sector or specialist area will be published in News Review and will feature permanently on the WAN website. The winning projects will be covered in a special INSIDE feature including a video of the judges' comments.
In addition, press releases are sent out to numerous publications and are often picked up by local, national and international media, as well as a variety of industry publications. You will also be provided with a press kit to enable you to promote your achievements for yourselves. Past winners have reported that the WAN AWARD'S high profile and the publicity they received have contributed noticeably to their business success.
The competition stages
A long list of approximately 25 entries will initially be selected after the closing date, and further details of the Project (plans, sections, elevations and more technical information) will then be requested from these entrants. From the 25, a shortlist of six will be selected before an overall winner is chosen.
Projects that are not shortlisted but recognised by the judges as worthy of note will be listed as 'commended'. The winning and shortlisted entries will be featured in a special edition of INSIDE which reaches over 200,000 property developers, architects, consultants and organisations in 120 countries.
Submission Format and guidelines
The format for the initial submission is as follows:
Text summary - 300 - 400 words (approx.)
1 main image @ 385 pixels wide
5-6 additional images @ 1000 pixels wide
Text summary - Include information about how your design addresses the judging criteria above. The size and completion date must be properly declared.
Images - If submitting your entry online, you can upload your images using the upload form 'Backstage'. Submissions by email should be sent to: email@example.com

The closing date for the WAN Retail Interiors Awards 2012 is 31 DECEMBER 12.
The entrance fee is £350 but an early registration price of £295 GBP available for entries made before 15 November 2012.
