Easier passage to Gatwick Airport's Satellite Pier 3

GMW Architects’ new link at Gatwick Airport replaces what was one of the world’s shortest railway journeys. It connects the airport's Pier 3 Satellite to the South Terminal, a distance of some 250 metres, which passengers previously covered by shuttle. The new link provides extra capacity to overcome the limits on passenger flow imposed by the shuttle, as well as providing complete segregation of arriving and departing passengers in line with DfT directives. The passenger corridors are fabricated from a series of four-metre modules and are supported by three long-span catenary bridge structures. The 56-metre spans are suspended between towers, which in addition to providing stability, allow for changes in direction without modification to the prefabricated modules.
