Form Follows Fun : opposites attract in adaptive re-use project in inner Sydney.

On a narrow inner urban site in Sydney, AO’s debut project is a simple manipulation of inexpensive materials to make a playful whole. The adjacent art deco warehouse is to be adapted to office and retail space. The “new work” contrasts it neighbour through a series of simple contradictions; vertical:horizontal, glass:masonry, open:closed, surface:wall, stagger:symmetry. Robust interior consists of polished concrete floors and off-form ceilings ... that’s it! A series of operable panels allow the small floor plates to fully engage with the neighbouring park and take full advantage of Sydney’s temperate climate.
