STUDIOS Architecture designs new headquarters for BGI in San Francisco
STUDIOS master planned and designed Foundry Square, a 1.6 million gsf multi-block, mid-rise urban complex in San Francisco's South of Market area. Each of the development's four buildings features an entry plaza facing out onto a common intersection, thereby creating a large public open space. Eighth-floor setbacks create landscaped roof terraces with dramatic city views. A central light court feeds additional daylight to all floors in the largest of the four structures. The design incorporates a variety of sustainable design techniques, such as the double-wall/air cavity curtainwall system.
Upon completion, the 300,000 sf Building 1 will house the headquarters for investment management firm, Barclays Global Investors. BGI will also occupy an additional 80,000 sf of space in an adjacent annex at Building 2. STUDIOS' design for BGI’s new space was influenced by the firm's core principles of research and innovation to create a collaborative and dynamic environment that promotes communication and fosters creativity.
