Diamond & Schmitt Architects Foreign Ministry building in Israel

The project is designed to meet the particular requirements of the Foreign Ministry of Israel. The public building complex is configured to accommodate elements appropriate to state and ceremonial functions. Central to the ceremonial requirement is an atrium and reception hall for heads of state and dignitaries. The complex consists of three categories of building. The first, in which the Foreign Minister and Director General’s offices reside, is also used for the press, for conferences and for protocol. The second is a building that houses the diplomatic corps – their offices, library, school and consular functions. The third, lying between the two, is for reception functions, accommodated in two contrasting structures, the onyx hall and ballroom. While each structure is expressive of the various functions housed within, and while there are a variety of forms and scales to the components of the complex, all are given cohesion by two overriding factors – order and sensibility.
