The Olympic Sculpture Park, a nine-acre green space that is part of the Seattle Art Museum is set to open 20 January 2007. Designed by Weiss Manfredi Architects, the park connects the city to the sea while providing a year round opportunity for visitors to experience sculpture in a spacious green park while enjoying incredible views of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound. The unique z-shaped design has already won several awards. The main path zigzags down to the Bay passing through four diverse environments of native plants and over the highway and the railroad tracks. Works by Louis Bourgeois, Richard Sera and Alexander Calder, to name a few, are integrated into the fabric of the park The park is part of the Museum’s phased expansion plan downtown, which is being designed by Allied Works Architecture and will open later this year.
