The Micheels House, an important work of Modernist architect, Paul Rudolph, was torn down this past weekend. The house, which was built in 1972 on a waterfront site in Westport Connecticut, has been in jeopardy for the past several months while its owners, who wanted to tear it down, and the Paul Rudolph Foundation, who wanted to save it, debated in court the house’s importance. According to a report in the New York Times, the judge in that case rejected attempts by the Attorney General to get a restraining order to prevent demolition last Friday because the house was not yet listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
