Designed by architects NBBJ, construction is expected to begin later this year, with completion anticipated by late 2008. The new Innovation Centre will provide a state-of-the-art facility comprising approximately 40,000 square feet of laboratories and offices designed specifically for high technology companies operating in the Life Sciences sector. The Innovation Centre will attract start-up companies from Queen Mary as well as independent companies from further afield. The Centre also anticipates supporting an additional 60-80 jobs in services in the local community, for example from minicab services and printing shops, to café bars and restaurants. The location is in an area of east London that is developing into a ‘Life Sciences cluster’, centred around Queen Mary’s Medical School and the Royal London Hospital. This network of world class clinical, teaching and research resources offers exciting benefits for both healthcare research and the development/ regeneration of the area.
