The harbor of Scheveningen was originally a fishing harbor. In the course of time fishery declined in importance and so did the companies. As a result, many old warehouses in the Second Harbor became redundant and are now due for demolition. By renovating the warehouses and placing steel penthouses on their rooftops, the harbor is given a new lease of life. The point of reference for the design is the presence of several robust warehouses with steel cooling plants on the roof. The construction of the penthouse comprises a frame of hot-rolled sections with a lightweight prefabricated panel filling. Essential for the spatial quality of these sky born penthouse are the spacious terraces on different levels and the double route provided by multiple external staircases.
