A timber sheathed pavilion sits in a sea side garden - pine trees front and back framing views. The departure for this house was an old dormer bungalow with a pitched roof sited in a garden that opens onto Dublin Bay. The brief was for a house that would exploit the views and provide a contemporary home for an expanding family. The roof was taken off and an arched portal frame placed over the remaining ground floor structure to form a single large living and eating space on the first floor that looks out over the bay. The rooms remaining at ground level provide the sleeping and utility space. The new house, completed in November 2006, is clad in Western red cedar externally, roof and walls, and lined in birch plywood internally, roof and walls, a balcony to the rear allows direct connection to the garden down a steel stairs, large windows afford an intimacy with the landscape.
