Submission is a new single family home in Metro-West Boston for a young professional couple from Mexico, and their four children.
Challenge was to create a home reflective of their cultural identity, expressed within a contemporary composition of the times.
Front south facing building elevation composition based on geometric relationships of reciprocal and complementary rectangles (e.g. root five rectangles and golden section), which are intuitively recognizable and convey a comforting and dynamic sense of balanced order.
Strong topographical linear movement of the stone retaining wall, driveway and entry walk in the foreground approach serve as counterpoint to the rectangular compositional repose of the main house. Plaster stucco walls, open vertical wall slots, red clay tile roofing and stone chimney, reinforce the syntactic image.
