Museum exhibition lands 's Calatrava first project in Israel

Santiago Calatrava recently dedicated his first project in Israel- a footbridge in Petah Tikvah a suburb of Tel Aviv. The 164 feet long span Y-shaped cable-stayed bridge will connect Rabin Hospital to a major shopping mall, a residential development and a public park. The structure is supported from a 95-foot high inclined steel pylon, which is situated where the three spans intersect. Light in construction, the bridge is built principally of steel with a glass-paved deck. Calatrava notes that he got the commission with Azorim Proprieties after the developer saw an exhibition of the Architect’s work at the Technion Museum in Tel Aviv. A second project in Israel by Calatrava, the Jerusalem Light Rail Bridge, is currently underway.
