Single Family House with Medical Practice
The property is situated along the village brook of Steckborn, connecting the village with the small town. The design avails of this circumstance by emphasising the coherence of the historic settlement. The basic system is reinforced by the change in ground level which accentuates the architrave basement block. The western side the building weaves itself into the gardens. Through the glazed circulation area the floor plan opens up to the western lake shore. The north facing double storey living room relates the house to the core of the small town, church and lake. The building appears to the street as a simple living house with the domestic scaled windows helping establish this appearance. The white main body of the building pushes itself freely over the edge of the basement. This effect increases at night, when through the mattfinished glass facade of the basement, a milky light pours out onto the street.
