House at Cluny Hill Road, Singapore

Perched on top of a small hill in the prestigious Cluny area estate, the house at Cluny hill is an expression of the modern tropical spatiality and aesthetic. The house sits on east-west orientation on its long side, topped by an elegant thin edged metal roof, with profiled aluminum trellis-like fins that provide for both a modern aesthetic and as a functional sun-shading device. The main block is an open and transparent space, washed with natural daylight that allows the owners to delight in the surrounding landscaping the pool. An aluminum screen serves a dual function— as a balcony edge railing as well as a sun-shading device for the high ceiling glassed living room. The pavilion-like master bedroom suite is a jewel-like box extension from the main block and enjoys commanding views of its surroundings. The simplicity of form of the house and its merging of the tropical spatial experience with the merging of indoors with outdoors, coupled with a modern tropical aesthetic creates a home that is at once elegant and functional.
